Wow I am in awe of this Bento! kickintheheadcomic’s girlfriend has some serious bento skills and I just added him as a contact on Flickr. The Katamari one is my favorite only because I am obsessed with Katamari Damacy, but many others including the Totoro and Wall-e are extremely impressive. I bet he never has to tell his woman to get in the kitchen! She’s already there!
Are you hip? Do you stir? Cool, then you probably set foot in an Urban Outfitters every now and then. Guess what? They sell my mirrors from back in TDC days, which are now licensed by Areaware. Not too shabby!
These biscuits from Mission Beach Cafe are the BOMB, people! Some crunch on the outside, fluffy and moist inside…and buttery without being overpowering. Topped with honey, you really can’t lose. Get some.
Core77’s just posted this year’s Gift Guide of 77 Design Gifts Under $77! Some of my additions were the Art Lebedev Fuck the Rain umbrella and brakes (for those fixie-wannabe people who need them-you know who you are).
If you’re at a loss for what to get for your impossible-to-buy-for friend or loved one, this is a great place to look. I, however, will be baking my gifts this year thanks to ye olde economy.
If you call yourself “food-obsessed”, then you must know who Michael Pollan is. And if you don’t you should quickly acquaint yourself with his books like Ominvore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food (and certainly Botany of Desire if you want to be thorough).
I just watched Bill Moyers’ interview with Mr. Pollan on PBS and it was one blissful hour of pure brain food. Watch it!
I just shot Beretta on a dull, rainy, muggy, funky, yucky, punky, junky evening. Needless to say, Deborah, the owner, was super gracious and welcomed me back when the weather’s a little more pleasant. I managed to snap a few decent pics, but I’ll definitely be returning for more. And I still have yet to eat the food! Must eat food…
From detailed schedule to the dinner table, Thanksgiving 2008 was a success! I made curry deviled eggs and bruschetta for starters, then herbed turkey breast, mushroom goat cheese tart, cornbread stuffing, sauteed green beans, rosemary mashed potatoes, pan gravy (which was eerily similar to KFC’s), cranberry lemon relish, and a spinach salad for the main shebang. Then we ate Judy’s delicious cake for dessert and all suffered food comas. All went as planned.
I took this photo at this past weekend’s Photojojo Photosafari across the bay in Treasure Island. This was one of only 2 pics I ended up taking, but it was so worth it! No special filter or anything–the settings were just right and I got some real sun “rays” and a crazy cute star shape.
This Animal Crossing : City Folk spot is a lame-o commercial with despicable acting and I am convinced that I’d much rather play Guitar Hero.
Anyhoo, I still watch the entire length of the commercial every time its on because the real estate is so droolworthy. My guess is the marketing team’s focus was on architecture and design this time around…
Coffee Bar is kind of in the middle of nowhere in the Potion (Potrero/Mission) but its massive industrial space commands attention…and it’s down the street from a Starbucks, so I guess it’s not really “nowhere.” The minimal, steel and concrete exterior was a joy to shoot, especially at the buttcrack of dawn with dramatic natural light.
It opens at 7am and I was so fascinated to witness the impressive amount of business Starbucks got between 6:30 and 6:50, before its neighborhood nemesis unlocked the gates.
