Bruce Nussbaum is an all-around nice guy but there’s no mistake that he’s guilty of muttering “Innovation” a few (million) times. Now he’s telling us that as of ‘09, “Innovation” is dead and now is the dawn of “Transformation.” Barf! Come on people–enough already. Check it:

“We need a deeper, more robust concept. ‘Transformation’ captures the key changes already underway and can help guide us into the future. It implies that our lives will increasingly be organized around digital platforms and networks that will replace edifices and big organizations.”

What the…Listen. There’s no apparent need to replace “Innovation” and furthermore, “Transformation” doesn’t even serve the same descriptive purpose as “Innovation” so it doesn’t work, any way you slice it. While “Innovation” is vague (which is why it worked), “Transformation” is beyond vague. It is an obvious observation of human existence. As long as we exist, we are always in the midst of a transformation. Bah!

It’ll be interesting to see if this forecast pans out…and if it does, I’ll know hell hath frozen overeth.
